Arsenal continue their excellent form with 4-0 thrashing of Brighton
By Andrew Delgado (Women’s Correspondent)
The Arsenal women maintain their place at the top of the Women’s Super League table after a thoroughly dominant display against Brighton.
It was a typical Arsenal display in which the frenetic pressing and relentless waves of attacks overwhelmed a Brighton side who have leaked goals freely this season. Surprisingly, Vivianne Miedema was unable to find the back of the net, but there was more than enough firepower on the day with 4 different players netting (Roord, van de Donk, Nobbs and Mead).
The player that continues to excel under the radar for the causal viewer is Leah Williamson. The central defender has registered 3 assists in her last 2 games as she continues to demonstrate her excellent ball playing abilies. Williamson, and partner Jen Beattie, have formed a formidable defensive partnership that has enabled the side to keep 16 clean sheets in 21 games.
The Arsenal Women so far in 2019/20:
+30 goal difference
16 clean sheets
The Arsenal women now face an incredibly tough and testing period in which they will host 3rd placed Chelsea, travel to Manchester to take on 2nd placed City and host a North London Derby. These games could decide the outcome of the title race with the top 3 teams being within a mere 4 points of each other.
